History
Lough Eske Castle traces its roots all the way back to the late 1400’s and the famous O’Donnell family that founded the nearby town of Donegal. The original castle was first built around 1474. A date stone of 1621 remains on the property to this day. The current Lough Eske Castle was constructed in the 1860s on the site of an old Brooke mansion, but was destroyed by fire in 1939. The newly renovated Lough Eske Castle stands as a continuing testament to the rich history of Lough Eske and the surrounding region.

Getting there
From Lifford, N15 – Traveling from Lifford through Balleybofey and Barmesmore Gap, you’ll see a pub (Biddys O’Barnes) to your left. Continue on for another 5km and you will see a signpost on your right for Solis Lough Eske Castle. Turn right and follow the finger signpost for another 5km.
From Silgo, N15 – Traveling from Silgo through Ballyshannon and Laghy. Continue past the junction for Donegal Town, heading for Lifford and Killybegs, you will arrive at a roundabout. Take the third exit for Lifford and Derry. Continue on this road for another 1.5km. You will see Clar Chapel on your right. Opposite, on your left, is a signpost and a road to Harvey’s Point. Turn left and follow the signpost for Solis Lough Eske Castle for another 5km.
From Killybegs, N56 – Traveling from Killybegs to Donegal Town, you will arrive at a roundabout. Take the third exit for Donegal Town. After 300 meters, take the road to your left and follow the signpost for Solis Lough Eske castle for another 7km.

Spa Solis features four single treatment rooms, two couple suites, one pedicure/manicure room and a thermal suite with hot benches, steam sauna, luxury showers and more. The relaxation area is equipped with six designer beds that face into the courtyard. There is also a fully equipped fitness center including high-tech treadmills, exercise bikes and other equipment, as well as a spacious 12m indoor swimming pool with its beautiful glass atrium.
Dining
The new Cedars Restaurant combines easygoing elegance with a very contemporary sense of style.The Oak Cellar Bar is everything its name suggests, a cozy getaway with stone floors, heavy leather couches, historical black and white photographs and a clubby oak ambiance. Here, you can join in a game of billiards, or you can simply sit back and share stories of your Donegal adventures.
Next to the Oak Cellar Bar is an exposed, well stocked wine cellar. There is also have a charming private dining room on this level with its own entrance. The room can seat up to 15 guests for meetings or special occasions, and it features a large open fireplace. The dining room itself is quite stunning with its floor-to-ceiling, button-back upholstery and modern crystal light fixtures. Glass doors open onto a lovely slate terrace with outdoor seating – a delightful place to admire the manicured lawns and woodland views.
There are organic selections and local beef. Superb Irish stew. Fresh catches from nearby Killybegs, Ireland‘s premier fishing port. And, of course, a wonderful collection of fine wines from around Europe and the world.
