Clontarf Castle

General information

Clontarf Castle is a beautiful 4-star hotel just minutes from the Dublin City Centre. Just 5 miles from Dublin airport, it enjoys the quiet neighbourhood and proximity of the Dublin bay.

Clontarf Castle History

Clontarf Castle has quite a long history. First notes about the estate date back to 1649, when Oliver Cromwell granted it to John Blackwell, who quickly sold it to John Vernon, the Quartermaster General of Cromwell’s army. Thus began the almost 300 years-long history of the Vernon family in the castle.
The building complex of the Clontarf Hotel as you see it today was built in 1835-1837 years by William Vetruvius Morrison, when the old estate was surveyed and demolished due to a structural problem.

The Clontarf Castle has opened its doors for the first visitors in June 1998. Prior to this, it’s been used as one of the Ireland’s best cabaret venues for almost 15 years.

In 2007 the Clontarf Castle received a €10 million renovation to bring the standards of service and accomoddation to their current excellence.
